Chapter 1 - Welcome to America

As the wind blew, the white spots of white clouds stood still above the earth.  At a temperature of about 91 degrees Fahrenheit on a sunny April day, the heat didn't seem to bother Rick Prophet and Garth Genter as they sat almost at the top of the ackee tree.

Chapter 1 - Page 2

Like other third world nations, opportunities in Jamaica were limited.  If you were born poor most likely you were going to die poor.  America is one of the few places in the world were a poor person could work hard and make a decent living.

Chapter 1 - Page 3

Rick never knew his father until he landed at JFK international airport in New York City.  His father met him and his mother at the airport.  His father is a tall medium built man.  The first thing Rick noticed about his father was that he smoked.

Chapter 1 - Page 4


After spending his first summer in the U.S., Rick didn't know what to expect his first day of school.  At 10 years old, he had just arrived in the United States the previous June.  His first day of school was an experience he'd never forget. 

The first day of English class his teacher called upon him to answer a question. Rick properly pushed his chair back, and stood to answer.

Chapter 1 - Page 5


Approximately a year later Rick has adjusted well to his American school.  His first year he received mostly B's in most of his subjects and made many friends.  His math teacher, Mr. Mozes, is trying to teach the day’s subject, but is constantly being disrupted by the students in the rear of the classroom.

One Sunday, Rick parents had the Watson's over for dinner.  The Watson's had a son named Andy that went to the same school as Rick. Andy and Rick were in the same grade but different classes. During the evening Mr. Watson pulled Rick's father aside and told him what Andy had told him.

Chapter 1 - Page 7


Rick starts to feel a little better because no one was really taking his problem to be a big deal.  Later that night Rick stared at himself in the mirror for about fifteen minutes wondering and analyzing why he was so scared of Ed.  It finally occurred to him that there way no reason for him to be scared of Ed. "He's human just like I am. He eats, sleep, smell, hears, thinks, and shits just like me", Rick thinks to himself.

Chapter 2 - We Meet Again


Ten years later Rick has grown to become a handsome well groomed young man.  At 21 years old, he now attends New York Institute of Technology, located in Manhattan, where he's studying mechanical engineering.  Rick's first love was flying.  But because of a car accident he had when he was 14 years old, he couldn't fly military.  He suffered a broken leg and collar bone.  His leg wasn't set one hundred percent.
